The purpose of this guide is to provide a general introduction to some of the historic artifacts recovered from archaeological sites in the Upper Sangamon Basin of east-central Illinois. Most of the field work has focused on the Mahomet area, but these sites are considered typical of material from the larger study area. Museum exhibits focus on the fascinating history of the Illinois River Valley, from its earliest settlers to more recent occupations. Admission is free, though donations are encouraged. The CAA is an independent (c)(3) non-profit organization. Contributions make the museum, our programs, and our mission possible.
